Deja Vu for trees in Rotherhithe

At a time when the Mayor of London is planting a record number of trees in the capital, Rotherhithe has once again been the victim of tree felling without permission by developers.

Following on from the Downtown debacle last year, when 400 trees were needlessly cut down by Barratt Homes without legal permission , a similar incident has happened at Canada Water.

The mature trees and bushes on Site A of the Canada Water development bordering Albatross Way have been felled despite the area's foilage being home number of rare birds. Planning permission for the site has yet to be given by Boris Johnson after negative criticisms relating to the development.

Loanna Morrison PPC for Bermondsey & Old Southwark, comments: "Once again local Liberal Councillors have allowed trees and bushes to be destroyed on their watch, despite one of them being the 'Executive' Member for Regeneration.  Local residents deserve better than these career politicians who seem to be permanently one step behind the developers actions."
